Christmas in Abingdon

Celebrate this Christmas at The Nag's Head on the Thames

Not many pubs can claim their own island. The Nag's Head sits in the middle of the Thames at Abingdon Bridge, and come December it's one of the best spots in town to watch the season sparkle — lights on the water, a fire going inside, and a festive buzz that builds as the month goes on. With seasonal menus worth crossing the bridge for, live music nights through December and a welcome that extends to the dog, this is Christmas with the river flowing past the windows. Gather your people and get yourselves to the island.

Christmas Menus

Christmas eating should be an occasion, and our kitchen has planned accordingly. Our festive menus bring together the best of the season — familiar favourites, generous plates and the kind of cooking that keeps everyone at the table longer.

All through December, The Nag's Head hosts festive lunches and dinners for every gathering — family meals, catch-ups with friends and end-of-year celebrations — with live music adding to the atmosphere on select nights through the month.

And on Christmas Day itself, the island is yours to enjoy while we do the work. A full festive feast with all the trimmings, from starters through roasts to puddings, served with a view you won't get anywhere else in Abingdon.

River views and December tables are both in limited supply — book early to claim yours.

Festive Gatherings

For a celebration with its own space — and quite possibly its own postcode — The Nag’s Head has options. The Snug, The Conservatory, The Terrace and even The Island itself can all be reserved for private festive gatherings, from cosy get-togethers to celebrations that take over the whole place. Tell us what you’re planning and we’ll make the island yours.
